UPPER EAST SIDE MANSION

This 5th Avenue mansion, built in 1907 as a private home, is now occupied by an active charitable organization dedicated to the maintenance of this exquisite building, its design and its architecture. The challenge we were given was to restore and extend parts of the original woodwork, and to make new cabinetry that both served the everyday needs of our client and was in keeping with the original aesthetic of the building.

At the east end of the the ground floor we restored the elegant french doors at the entrance to the conference room and then duplicated them at the other side of the hallway. At the west end of the ground floor we designed and fabricated a replacement for the lost pocket door mechanism at the entrance to the reception room and then restored and rehung the original pocket door. In the center of the ground floor, the entry area, we designed and built a reception desk with wall-mounted publication displays using moldings and veneers to match the original.

On the second floor, in the former music room, now the publications department, we restored the existing leaded glass windows and surrounding woodwork, and then designed and built new cabinetry, including book display cases, storage shelving, and staff desks.
